About Us
SA Seed specialises in the development, production, and distribution of high-quality wheat seeds. Founded by Alfons Visser, a renowned farmer and agricultural entrepreneur, SA Seed is the newest addition to the Visser family’s extensive portfolio of agribusinesses, which includes SA Peanuts, and SA Pecans.
Our Origins & Expertise
Our journey began when agricultural entrepreneur Alfons Visser and renowned wheat breeder Dr André du Toit acquired Pannar Seed’s wheat seed division in 2024. Since then, SA Seed has successfully integrated the trusted Pannar wheat portfolio, with the name on the seed bags changing from PAN to SAS. While the branding changed, the proven seed quality, genetics, and performance remained exactly the same. We have continued to uphold the high standards farmers have come to trust, ensuring they benefit from the same reliable and resilient wheat cultivars.
Our Team
We are a team with a deep understanding of the wheat industry. Dr. André du Toit, with his 20 years of experience as a wheat breeder, leads our research and development efforts. Alfons Visser, alongside his family members, brings a wealth of agricultural knowledge and business expertise to guide our operations.
Research and Innovation
Our commitment to research and development is unwavering. Under the expertise of Dr. André du Toit, we are evaluating numerous new wheat lines in statistical trials, aiming to register them for all wheat production areas in South Africa. Our focus is on developing cultivars that offer improved yields and disease resistance, ensuring the success and sustainability of wheat farming in various regions.
Centralised Processing and Sustainability
To enhance efficiency, we have centralized our seed processing operations at Hartswater, within the SA Pecans processing department. This strategic move reduces transport costs and optimizes resource utilization, as our staff can switch between pecan and wheat seed processing. Additionally, our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our use of solar panels and battery systems to power our facilities.
